The Goiáns land occupies an area of close to 120,000 square meters and stands out for its privileged location as it has direct access to the sea through the Coroño River estuary.
What can we find?
As the most prominent element of the Pazo we have the tower attached to the palatial residence, a symbol for Boiro and as such incorporated into his shield. The tower is from the 16th century. It grew in an L shape over the following centuries and its internal structure was greatly altered in the 20th century. Other elements of this complex are the chapel. the winepresses the dovecote, the granary, the fisheries and the pier.
The Pazo
The noble residence has a very sober L-shaped plan, which moves away from the canons of the baroque mansions on the coast. Above the door that leads to the patio we find a shield where the waves of the sea can be distinguished that represent the Marino family, founders of the estate of the House of Goiáns in 1552.
Walking around the farm
CHAPEL.- Founded around 1630 by Don Jorge Varela de Castro Sotomayor, it was initially dedicated to the cult of San Xurxo.
LAGARES.- At the end of the 18th century, the House of Goiáns had a very important wine production, obtaining more than 15,000 liters of wine.
PIER.- The pier was key in commercial exchanges, since provisions, construction materials, and merchandise entered through there; and the cattle that went to Sálvora, the wine, also left. and the oysters that were grown in the cove itself and taken to different monasteries as dowries for the daughters of the House.
PESQUEIRAS.- In the estuary of the Coroño River you can still see remains of the walls of the old fisheries that served as a continuous supply of fresh fish for the Pazo.
GARDENS.- The so-called noble garden was located in front of the east façade of the Pazo, where several exotic trees, a fountain and a gazebo can currently be identified. On the tour through the rest of the green areas, we cannot miss the impressive cork oak that is about 300 years old that is located next to the pier and is part of the only native forest in full conservation conditions of the entire environment; and the large Camellia Sasanqua located behind the main wall.
