In the northern part of the Arousa estuary, there is an archaeological area of great interest, declared of cultural interest in 2011. It is the archeological zone of the Castros de Neixón. In a small peninsula that enters the estuary, two small settlements are located castrexos, one of them was inhabited more than 2500 years, and its roots are settled in the transition between the Age of the Bronze and the Age of the Iron. It was one of the earliest Galician archaeological sites intervened with techniques and methods that we could consider the beginnings of archeology as a discipline, happened in the first decades of the last century, and participated in those that today are considered part of the parents of the Galician archeology, D. Fermin Bouza Brey and D. Florentino López Cuevillas. These first data obtained during the archaeological excavations will serve to publish the first scientific synthesis of Galician prehistory and protohistory. The other castro, the Grande, was occupied later than the Small, possibly after the latter's abandonment, and thanks to the investigations carried out we know that it was abandoned late as a place of settlement, perhaps around the third century AD. Although later this area will serve to house a small late-old necropolis that is in the process of research at the moment.
