If you are only going to spend a weekend in Boiro, we suggest you this getaway with which you can get to know our best spots.
When you get to Boiro, the first thing you have to do is go through the streets and squares of the urban center. At the Tourist Office, located in Plaza de Galicia s / n, we provide you with a good map of Boiro so you can get lost among the main streets of the town.
You will find the tourist office in Plaza de Galicia, in the town hall, in the same urban area of the municipality, where you can start your route. Around this are several of the main attractions that we invite you to discover, as is the case of the Parish Church of Santa Baia de Boiro, a typical example of Rural Baroque Art, whose origin dates back to an ancient temple built at the beginning in the Seventeenth Century. This parochial temple knew in the 18th century its enlargement works of greater magnitude. Its Baroque´s Style origins are manifested in stylistic motifs, highlighting the bell tower, inspired by the Clock Tower of the Santiago´s Cathedral. The church is enriched by the sculptural work of masters such as Miguel de Romay, one of the first figures of Galician baroque sculpture, and local artisans and artists such as the Núñez de la Tenencia, authors of numerous sculptural works throughout the region.
This church sits next to Camiño Real, or as it is popularly known, Camiño Vello. These were roads of sacramental and commercial type that united Santiago de Compostela with the other localities. At its sides, the population settled forming different villas that still retain the same characteristics: narrow streets, tall houses with balconies and large portals.
Also in one of these streets, the pedestrian, is the Local Market, a unique opportunity for you to know the most ingrained traditions of our locality; our trades and customs. A space that, from Monday to Saturday, opens its doors showing the richness of our land and our sea and giving you the opportunity to mix with our people. Immerse yourself in our local idiosyncrasy by approaching this fertile and bustling commercial space, where you can buy the freshest fish from the estuary, the best meats or the wonderful fruits, vegetables and vegetables grown in the gardens of our municipality.
